Is Fair and Impartial Treatment Possible? – SCHUMM

It’s possible for jurors to allow their prejudices to go when deciding on the innocence or guilt of someone accused of a crime. However open-minded an individual may be, everyone has their own opinions and perspectives. It is impossible to be truly objective or fair.

However, courts require juries that come as close to fairness and impartiality as is humanly feasible. It is crucial to choose jurors who are willing to accept that an accused person is in innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable possibility of doubt. Jurors must be prepared to cover for damages in the financial realm that cannot be repaired by cash. These concepts often go against the instinct of humans, making it very difficult to find competent jurors.

It’s not enough for a potential jury member to state that they’re an impartial and fair juror. Prior to being allowed to serve as juror, they have to be exposed to these notions by asking the right questions. It is the only way to judge people being accused of crimes fairly.
